So here's our August News Update! We had a wonderful month for many reasons, mostly because we had both sets of our wonderful parents here to visit us. First came the Hiltons and we had so much fun having a joint birthday celebration all together (Madeleine got her first Madame Alexander Doll from Grandparents Hilton which she LOVED!) and lots of sightseeing in Boston and Plymouth. Matt's parents came and we had so much fun taking walks and visiting the beautiful, picturesque, Maine and my in-laws lake house there, which was wonderful. We were sad to see our families leave!
Life is going wonderfully overall, despite the fact that we've been sick most of the month of August (odd, as it is summer), but I think we are finally getting over all the bugs. I finally finished the last touches on the kids nursery (the matching curtains and Madeleine's bedding). Bless her little heart, she has spent the majority of her life here on earth in a porta crib and so I finally got motivated to fix up her bed and make Jacob start sleeping in the big boy bed. They do pretty well upstairs in the nursery together although we here them giggling quite a bit when they are supposed to be falling asleep!
Matt is finished with his first Boston Medical Center rotation, for which he is THRILLED. He will now be at the VA (a Veterans Hospital) for the next couple of months with a, hopefully, much more predictable schedule and NO CALL. Overall, he is tired, happy to come home, but catching on to the residency much better than at first. I am often so sad that his associations with Boston are stress and the hospital when we live in a little, mini, small town paradise. He is SO happy to come home though.
Madeleine turned one at the end of July, which I cannot believe since she is still a little peanut, and Jacob will be starting Pre-School (a three day a week, two and a half hour program) which he is very excited for, especially since he got a new CARS backpack as you can see in the photos.
Our pears and grapes have ripened and kids have so much fun in the backyard, playing in the new turtle sandbox, eating pears (sometimes rotten ones which I have to watch out for) and going jogging with me in the stroller at the nearby Fresh Pond.
I am two and a half weeks away from my marathon for which I am very nervous. My last 12 mile run was encouraging though and I feel I've trained hard and well, done everything I can and so, if everything goes right, will qualify for the Boston Marathon for next April. It has been a great experience to push myself to a new level of running, whether I get my time (3:40 time or less) or not. Either way Matt most likely will get to go to Utah with us and we will get to see both our families there.
So we send all our love to our dear friends and family wherever you are and hope you are having a splendid summer!

I love all the pictures. Looks like you have really enjoyed have SO much family come and visit. Hopefully things pan out some time and we will be able to come for a visit before you guys leave. Good luck with the marathon!!!! My favorite picture is Madelyn eating the fruit with her cute little face looking up. I love it!!!!
Sounds like you've had a fun month with your families. Cute pictures...it's so fun to see you as a mom. Good luck with your marathon! That's such an amazing goal! I'd like to run the Boston some day, but I think I'm going to need more than the two marathons I've run to prepare to get that time. I'm really excited for you, and hope you feel good about your race.
You have such a beautiful family. Madelyn is so cute! Jacob is such a handsome little boy. It is so fun to see pictures of them as they are changing so fast. Sounds like Matt is going to have a nice rotation! Enjoy no call, that is awesome! Glad that you could spend time with both families, it sounds like you had lots of fun. Good luck with the marathon! I'm excited to hear how you do.
